Obituary

Norman Donald Weigand, 93, formerly of Arkansas City, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 2, 2021 at his home in Wichita.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 6 at Parker Cemetery in Arkansas City. There will be a time of visitation from 9-10:30 prior to services at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. A memorial has been established with Gideon's International and Family Life Services. 

Norman was born on a farm around Ingersoll, OK on July 3, 1927 to parents P.A. Weigand and Matilda (Schwab) Weigand. He joined the Marines in 1945 to serve in WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He attended Oklahoma University for business and law, and Northwestern University for education. Norman was united in marriage to Gladys Fae Whitehead on May 1, 1953 in Cherokee, OK they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Norman guided many young lives working as a student counselor in Arkansas City for 30 years. Norman was proud of his work for the Gideon Association as well as many other roles within the church and community.

Norman was well known for his dedication to helping kids of all ages to stay on the right path and follow the Lord. Norman and Gladys opened their home over the years to care for 13 foster girls. To this day several still reminisce with the family of their time with the Weigands. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City.

 Norman is survived by his daughter, Ronda (Dean) Dutton, son-in-law, Dean Hall, and son, Randall (Denise) Weigand; sisters Ella Mae (Leland) Batt, Virginia Harvey, brother Emanuel (Lois) Weigand; grandchildren: Michael (Holly) and Steven Dutton, Rachelle (Philip) Grant, Amber (Brett) Blake, Breanne Hall, Ashley, Sara and Melanie Dealy; great-grandchildren: Keegan, Noah, Rebekah, Mary, and Matthew Dutton, Elliot Grant, Braylee, Payton, Hayden, and Deager Blake, Vincent Dealy and Zachariah Gilligan, and many loving nieces, nephews, and their families. He goes to join his wife Gladys, daughter Mary Jean Hall, twin infants, his parents and his brothers Julius, Marvin and R.J.
