Olivia Kay Henning

Olivia Kay Henning, 15, of Winfield, KS, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021, at William Newton Hospital.

 Olivia was born June 26, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, to parents Shawn “Ozz” and Jessica Ann (Metzinger) Henning. Olivia attended Winfield High School and was a sophomore who loved spending time with her friends. She had a 4.0 GPA, played Cello in the orchestra, and enjoyed all subjects except social studies. In school she enjoyed being a team manager for the Viking girls’ basketball team and participated in both volleyball and softball for Winfield High School. In March of this year, Oliva hit her first high school home run in McPherson, KS.

 In her spare time, she enjoyed reading all types of books, especially books about World War II. Criminal Minds, Law in Order, and the Olympics were her favorite tv shows. Oliva spent her summers playing traveling softball. This past summer she traveled to Dodge City, Oklahoma City, and Texas to play in tournaments. While playing in Oklahoma City, her team, The Heat, took 1st Place and also took 5th place at the Southern Nationals in Dallas, Texas.

 Olivia is survived by her father Shawn Henning, uncle Travis Metzinger (Susanne), aunt Valerie Becker (Brian), uncle Chad Henning (Cheri), cousins Taryn (Hunter), Tysha, Ellie, Wren, Graham, and great-grandparents Bill and Darlene Bradley. She is preceded in death by her mother Jessica Henning, grandparents Denise Metzinger, Wayne Metzinger, Ken and Sue Henning, great-grandparents Don and Vikki Metzinger, Elvin and Helen Beck, and George and Marcie Henning.

 Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Central Baptist Church of Winfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions for Olivia be made to the Olivia Henning Memorial Fund which will provide financial support for the creation of the LIVE4LIV Memorial Foundation. This foundation will provide ongoing scholarships for seniors attending college, financial support for activities that Olivia enjoyed, and education awareness for teens and parents living with Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes. All prior donations contributed to the Olivia Henning College Fund will be transferred to the LIVE4LIV Memorial Foundation. Donations can be left in the care of Shelley’s Family Funeral Home.
