Phyllis Thurman went to be with her lord April 28, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 5th, 2025, at the Central Baptist Church in Winfield. No visitation is scheduled. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cowley County Humane Society, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Phyllis Nadine (Biddle) Thurman was born in Braman, OK, October 12, 1935 to Opal (Simmons) & Curtis Biddle. As a child she lived in the surrounding area of Winfield until 1948 when they moved to Winfield. Phyllis graduated from Winfield High School in 1953. Phyllis married Walter "Jack" Thurman June 20, 1954 in the First Baptist Church in Winfield.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Winfield. She was very active in her church for as long as her health allowed. She served several years as the Church Treasurer, and Church Clerk. She served on many committees of the church. Phyllis worked at the County Clerk's Office and the County Treasurer's Office sixteen years, Wm. Newton Hospital Business Office and the First National Bank. After retirement she enjoyed bowling in an afternoon league. She was one of the Red Hat Hattitudes and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Newton Memorial Hospital. Highlights of her life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Jack Thurman, Her parents: Opal & Curtis Biddle, son-in-law: Dave Willis, and grandson: Derek Day. Two uncles: (favorites of all the family) Phil Simmons & Odra Simmons. Two sister-in-law's: Mary Jones and Nelda Thurman, and four brother-in-law's: Bill, Clyde, Paul & Teddy Thurman.

Survivors: daughters: Teresa Thurman-Zuck, & husband Greg, Hill City, SD, and Susan Willis, Sioux Falls, SD. A son: Walter C. (W.C.) Thurman & wife Pamela, Arkansas City, KS; grandchildren: Jamie Kerr & wife Stephanie, Pierre, SD; Charity Day, Rapid City, SD. Valerie Willis, Sioux Falls, SD; Mallorie Hodges & husband Matthew, Arkansas City, KS; Cody Thurman & wife Bennett, Udall, KS; and Molly Day, Park City, KS, great-grandchildren: Taylor Kerr & partner Ciera Paige, Albany, MO; Dylan Kerr, Pierre, SD; Quinton Day & Patrick Day, Park City, KS Ryder Willis & Madyson Willis, Sioux Falls, SD. Conrad Red Willow, Rapid City, SD. Great-Great Grandchildren: Curtis Wayne Thurman, Udall, KS; Aliyah Kerr & Aiden Kerr, Albany, MO. Brother-in-laws: Ed Thurman, Marvin, Harry, and Jimmy Thurman, all of Chattanooga, TN. Sister-in-laws: Eva Harvey & Wanda Rapier, Chattanooga, TN, and many nieces & nephews.
