Rex Alan Brown, 64, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away May 2, 2026, at his home.
Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date. Memorials in his name may be made out to the USD 470 High School Athletic Department and left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
Rex was born on April 12, 1962 in Greensburg, KS to parents George Edward and Olga Ann Brown. He graduated from Bucklin, KS, high school and then moved to Ark City to be near his sister. He worked for L.G. Pike, then at Ark City Country Club as the green’s superintendent, then at Ark City High School as the athletic custodian for 23 years before retiring due to a traumatic brain injury. On August 2, 1986 he was united in marriage to Lisa Murray, the couple later divorced. Rex enjoyed golfing, spending the weekends with a cold beer and any Kansas Sporting event on TV, especially the Chiefs, Royals, and KU. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, April Rhodes (Bryson), grandchildren, Addison and Brennan, his partner of 11 years, Penny Schmidt, stepson, Robert Schmidt, and step-granddaughter, Ruby Schmidt, his niece Sarah Asher, nephew Cliff Mott, and brother-in-law, Mitch.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Jeff E. Brown, Timothy F. Brown, and Valerie Ann Mott.
