Robert “Bob” Allan Gildhouse, 89, of Arkansas City, passed away Sunday, September 11th, 2022.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 17th, 2022 at Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hackney Community Baptist Church or the Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church; donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
Bob was born on January 28th, 1933 to Merla and Emma (Alexander) Gildhouse. He graduated from Arkansas City High School and Cowley County Junior College. After an enlistment in the United States Army, he enrolled at the University of Central Oklahoma, receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. After his formal education, he began his 25-year career as a business teacher and media specialist at the high school in Cimarron, New Mexico. During his teaching career, he often worked summers at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch. After his retirement, he worked for Pennzoil for a time. He regularly attended the First Baptist Church in Cimarron. Bob enjoyed gardening, sightseeing, going for drives, wintering at Lake Havasu, and was a faithful customer to Ike’s Donut Shop in Arkansas City, KS.
Bob is survived by his sister: Rose (Ron) Cross, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and the following siblings: Lavinia Woods, Edgar Gildhouse, Lester Gildhouse, Billie Gildhouse, and Helen Standlee.
