Susanne Wright Stark

Susanne Wright Stark, 86, of Arkansas City, KS passed away Friday, July 12, 2024 at Medicalodges of Arkansas City.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 19, 2024 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Memorial contributions may be made to The Legacy Foundation, for the Susanne Stark Fund for the Master Teacher Award, recognizing excellence in education at USD 470. Donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.

Susanne was born January 15, 1938 in Arkansas City, KS the daughter of Stephen and Celeste (Allard) Wright. She was raised and educated in Arkansas City. After graduating high school, Susanne earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Southwestern College in 1963 and later earned a Master of Education degree from Wichita State University. She was a lifelong educator, teaching English from 1963 to the late 90’s at the Arkansas City High School. In 1996 Susanne received the Master Teacher Award acknowledging her passion for her students and their education over the years. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma education honors society. Susanne hosted over 20 foreign exchange students, typically hosting 2 students per year starting in the 90’s. She also enjoyed traveling to New Zealand and spending time with her granddaughters.

Her family includes her son, Trace Stark, and granddaughters Skyler and Kaci Stark. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Timothy Wright and Steven Wright, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Stark.
