Vernadene Marie Hiatt

Vernadene Marie Hiatt, 84, of Rose Hill, KS passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Wilmot Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cowley County Humane Society and the American Cancer Society, donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.

Vernadene was born on August 11, 1937, in Olympia, WA to parents Vernon Lord and Thelma Weber Lord Palmlund. She attended high school in Spokane, WA. On August 12, 1955, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Cecil Hiatt on Geiger Air Force Base. Later, the couple moved to Arkansas City where she lived until Cecil’s passing in 2011. Vernadene enjoyed ceramics, reading anything by Nora Roberts and Zane Gray, bowling in the housewives league in Winfield, dogs, and horses, was a member of the friends of the NRA, and was a cub scoutmaster for many years.

Vernadene is survived by her son, Larry W. Hiatt and wife Terri S. (Armstrong) Hiatt of Rose Hill, KS; daughter Donna M. (Hiatt) Johnson and husband T.J. of Winfield; grandchildren: Wendy (Falk) Fjorden and husband Jason of Beaverton, OR; Dr. Nathan Falk and wife Erin of Chanute, KS; Kandi (Hiatt) Bolen of Sterling, NE; Trena (Falk) Cantrell and husband Chad of Goddard, KS; Joshua Hiatt of Rose Hill, KS; Nicole "Nikki" (Hiatt) Shelton of Sterling, NE; Amanda (Johnson) Ballesteros and husband Phil of Newfane, NY; and Tara Johnson of New York; 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, and sister Bonnie Lord. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil, and brother Gary Palmlund.
