Virginia Bernice (Waters) Wheeler

Virginia Bernice Wheeler, 88, of Oxford, passed away peacefully Monday, October 4, 2021 at her home, surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 8 at the Oxford Funeral Service chapel. Burial will follow at the Oxford Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-5 P.M. Thursday, October 7. Memorial contributions for Bernice may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, donations may be left in the care of the funeral home.

Bernice was born in Paris, TX the daughter of Albert Waters Jr. and Beulah (McCauley) Waters. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1951 and was united in marriage to the love of her life, Billy Byron Wheeler August 25, 1951 in Oxford. They shared 67 wonderful years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 2018. She enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her family, she also worked at Riverview Manor for 25 years. Bernice was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oxford and the Order of the Eastern Star, she enjoyed cooking, and was known for her cinnamon rolls and fried ribs, and her grandkids were her life.

Survivors include her children Billie Rivers, Bobby Wheeler, and Byron Wheeler (Diana) all of Oxford; sisters-in-law Jane Krafels of Hutchison and Bev Waters Chico, CA; grandchildren: Jennifer Rivers, Crystal Williams, Joshua Wheeler, Benjamin Rivers, Melissa Linot, and 12  great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
