William (Bill) J. Flick, Jr. born April 5, 1929 in Winfield, Kansas, passed away on October 13, 2024 at Winfield Senior Living.
Bill was known to all for telling lots of stories. He especially liked stories about fishing with his Dad & Mom in Colorado & Minnesota & working for his Dad in the various cafes that his Dad owned, such as the B&L restaurant in Winfield & Flicks Cafe in Clay Center. Bill played several sports including football & basketball at Clay Center High School before the family moved back to Winfield where he continued sports in his senior year, graduating from Winfield High School in 1947.
He married Marguerite Overstreet in 1950 in Newton, KS & was married to her for 59 years until her death. Bill & Marguerite traveled all over the world for most of their marriage. He was in business with his dad and brother at Winfield Plumbing & Heating until he sold the business to his brother and moved to Pagosa Springs, CO. He and Marguerite also lived in Farmington, NM before moving back to Winfield.
He was an avid fly fisherman & taught his son and grandsons the craft. He hand-carved all types of birds & ducks plus replicas of flies he used in fly fishing. When his hands were no longer able to carve, he taught himself to paint beautiful birds & fishing flies, experimenting in different types of art media. Whenever someone did him a favor, he gave them one of his feather pins or earrings or a painting he’d made. Several of his carvings were featured in Kansas magazine & displayed in various art museums across the state.
He was preceded in death by his parents William J. Flick, Sr & Alice Holloway Flick & his wife, Marguerite Flick. He is survived by a brother Larry (Jan) Flick of Winfield, a sister Sandi Hower of Winfield, a daughter, Kris (Craig) Dewell of Hays, a son John (Debbie) Flick of Durango, CO, grandchildren Ryan (Jessica) Dewell of Kirkland, WA, Matt (Lindsey) Dewell of Olathe, KS, Ross Flick of Whitefish, MT & Mary (Corey) Lindt of Durango, CO, 6 great grandchildren, 4 nieces & a nephew.
Cremation has taken place & services will be a private family celebration in Durango next spring.
